Marc Vaux
Untitled (Red), 1971
Screenprint on paper
74 x 92 cms (29 1/8 x 36 1/4 ins)
Edition of 120
As in many of his paintings of the early 1970s, Marc Vaux continued to place his items near the right or left edge of the work and at eye-level. They draw us close to the paper or canvas, so that our peripheral vision is drenched in the field colour and our sense of space is stimulated by its generous sweep. Used in this way, the items act like decoys; there is something humorous about them. He himself speaks of the ‘banality’ of the interfering element: ‘The banality of image aims at contrasting with chromatic experience’.
