Biography
Larry Poons is an abstract painter, originally born in Tokyo, Japan. From 1955 to 1957, he studied music at the New England Conservatory of Music and later enrolled at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Poons is best known for his lyrical colour paintings, which were first exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York in the mid-1960s. He taught at the Art Students League of New York from 1966 until 1970 and returned to teach there in 1997. His paintings are currently in the collections of many major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Chicago Art Institute; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and Tate in London. During the last thirty years, his art has been included in hundreds of solo and group exhibitions, including many contemporary exhibitions at major museums and galleries around the world.

Larry Poons: New Paintings
12 September - 10 October 2007Larry Poons' current works are large canvases covered with an incredible armoury of different small brush marks. Although abstract, they bring to mind associations with Post-Impressionist painters such as Édouard Vuillard and Georges Seurat. The exhibition is in celebration of Poons' 70th birthday. A fully illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition with a text by Frank Stella.
