Vicky Colombet

Vicky Colombet is a French artist living and working in New York. For the past two decades, she has been exploring landscape in its representation and possibilities. Her abstracted landscapes are made with a great sensibility to the surface, using oil and pigments to create a sedimentary topography on the canvas. She also paints subjects in which light is a major presence. Her works evoke the way that light is fractured by the surfaces of water and earth, laying bare the structure of replicating natural forms. This is achieved by means of color and tone control using a restricted palette of white on white, grey on white and aqua blues. Her more monochromatic pieces operate as pure abstractions, while others appear almost photographic. Colombet's work is in a number of important private collections in the United States and Europe, as well as in severeal museum collections.
